Spotlight On Her , together with Nine Hitchcock’s Heroines , is a series of illustrations that feature nine most iconic leading ladies in Hitchcock’s films. As prominent as they are and their characters, these female actresses often have to share the spotlight with their male co – stars in the films, as well as in the film posters. Sometimes people don’t remember their full names at all. This series explores a coloful and eye-catching approach on crafting the name of these actresses through digital painting with custom made lettering.

process: research, experiment & hand-drawn sketches
After seeing about 30 of Hitchcock’s most well-known movies and doing some research on the main actresses, I’ve selected the top 9 movies that I enjoy most. Only 3 of the 9 films that were selected include female protagonists. Old-fashioned posters did not show female characters in a more dominating position, despite some movies having female roles that seemed to overshadow male characters. To further accentuate the actresses’ presence, I created nine sketches using a more photographic approach to capture their likeness and give credibility to the personalized name in the background.
